Metta मेत्ता
मेत्ता in english is "Metta". Metta translates directly into english as "loving kindness" from Pali, the language of the Buddha. This can perhaps be better translated as "friendship" so as not to confuse it with any notion of romantic love as it is often understood in the west, but rather selfless compassion and caring for all life. In addition "Metta" is the name of the artist although he still goes by Max as well. Around the outer perimeter of each side it is written "May All Life" 3 times, and on the outer perimeter of the top and bottom it is written "Be Happy" 7 seven times to complete "May All Life Be Happy" 20 times in honor of the year 2020. मेत्ता (original pali script of the Metta) can be seen throughout the painting. Many of the original scripted versions of Metta (मेत्ता) which can be found in the painting are actually glow in the dark including the large one in the center. This serves as a reminder that even when times are dark loving kindness, compassion, and selfless friendship can be seen as a glowing light on the path towards true happiness for life. In addition the words "Om Mane Padme Hum" can be seen written in cursive. Although this phrase has countless translations, there are two that the artist prefers in regards to this piece. The first is the direct translation as "Compassion". The second is "The Jewel of Compassion within the Lotus of Wisdom". The artist believes that this second translation is a great reminder that with true wisdom comes true compassion. With true wisdom we come to understand the true nature of reality and the fact that all life experiences suffering to some degree. By coming to a deep realization of the suffering we all experience we also come to a deep realization of the importance of compassion.
