Radical Compassion 24 x 20 inch Metal Print
Inspired by the Dalai Lama’s quote “compassion is the radicalism of our time” and by the artist’s time spent in Tibet studying Buddhist meditation.
The three symbolic scripts in the artwork are “Om Mani Padme Hum” which means “The Jewel of Compassion in the Lotus of Wisdom”. Om Mani Padme Hum is the national mantra of Tibet and can be understood as the compassion that arises when we develop the insight to see things clearly.
When we look into the ideals of main stream culture, compassion can be a difficult quality to find. Although compassion may not be as pervasive as we would like, surely it is a natural quality of the human mind, and surely it will flourish on earth given the right conditions.
May the right conditions arise on planet earth for compassion to flourish, making compassion not so radical for this day in age after all.
